Starting Pay Rate: $26.37/hour

General Statement:

Under direct supervision of the Director of Operations, this position constructs various structures, and performs minor renovations and maintenance throughout the Zoo.

 

Essential Duties:

  1. Provides quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance.
  2. Works collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors to support ACNC’s Core Values, and mission statement.
  3. Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment working from blueprints and/or verbal instruction.
  4. Builds, repairs, and installs exhibits, cages, crates, gates, decks, partitions, walls, ceiling tile, floor tile, building framework and trim.
  5. Hangs and finishes sheetrock.
  6. Performs roof installation and repair.
  7. Performs concrete work.
  8. Follows preventative maintenance schedules.
  9. Assists with fabrication of new exhibits and/or prototypes.
  10. Provides scheduled and emergency after-hours maintenance or repair.
  11. Ensures the safety of all guests (external and internal) at all times, including in case of Zoo/ACNC-related emergency.
  12. Documents all work performed on work orders.
  13. Interprets schematic drawings and technical instructions.
  14. Performs any other duties and projects as fits the needs of the ACNC’s business strategy.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma, trade school diploma, or license preferred.
  2. Five years of experience in construction industry; zoo, campus, or industrial maintenance experience with emphasis in building construction at a Journeyman level.
  3. General knowledge of all phases of building construction.
  4. Familiar with OSHA regulations regarding building construction and safety in work practices.
  5. Skill in reading blueprints, charts and technical instructions.
  6. Knowledge of the application and use of equipment such as table saws, nail guns, drills, radial arm saw, sanders, jointers, screw guns, etc.
  7. Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  8. Possession of valid driver license.
  9. Ability to pass pre-employment background and DMV check, drug test, and annual TB test.
