KEEP TEMPE BEAUTIFUL Keep Tempe Beautiful is a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer-run organization committed to inspiring and educating the community to take action in making Tempe a clean, green, and beautiful place to live. Our vision is to keep Tempe a vibrant city where each neighborhood is a healthy, beautiful place to live, work, and play. We have three major goals: End Littering, Improve Recycling, and Beautification of Our City. OUR MISSION Every day, Keep Tempe Beautiful provides tools to empower our diverse communities to improve the overall quality of life and the beautification of our city. To achieve our mission, we inspire individuals and organizations through leadership, active partnerships, volunteer experience, and meaningful programs and projects. END LITTERING Litter affects all of us. Not only is litter harmful to the environment and to our health, but it also costs Maricopa County taxpayers $5 million every year to clean up litter on Valley roadways alone. More than 350 bags of litter are removed each weekday from Valley freeways, totaling about 1.2 million pounds of litter each year. Debris on freeways causes 51,000 accidents and nearly 10,000 injuries in the U.S. every year, and, hitting a little closer to home, there are an average of two deaths per year in Maricopa County due to road debris. (Source: donttrashaz.org.) We’re taking action to end littering. We would love for you to join us at one of our clean-up events! IMPROVE RECYCLING When we recycle, the amount of trash that is disposed of in landfills is reduced, natural resources are conserved, pollution is prevented and energy is saved. With all of the ways recycling benefits our environment and community, there is no reason not to recycle! We understand that knowing what can and what cannot go in your recycle bin can be tricky, though. That’s why we’re committed to educating the community to improve recycling. By educating and engaging individuals to recycle items the right way, our city continues to reap the environmental and community benefits of recycling properly.
